Once again, culture war nonsense has been a Republican priority instead of the real problems facing us.
The current majority in the Kansas legislature has seen fit to punish some of the citizens of our state simply because they don't like them, or for some reason, fear them. Their "crime"? Gender dysphoria - the feeling of one's emotional and psychological identity to be at variance with one's birth sex.
Their rallying cry was "protect women!". How did they accomplish this? By summarily cancelling the drivers license of any trans-gender person. By forcing some persons who present clearly as male (bearded, muscular) to use a women's bathroom, and forcing some persons who present clearly as female into the men's room. I honestly don't see any "protecting" going on here.
What I do see is a heavy handed unconstitutional solution to non-existent problems. The 14th amendment says that "no state shall deny any person equal protection under the law". Revoking the driving privileges (and if they don't have a passport, potentially the voting rights) of a narrow segment of the population hardly seems to live up to the equal protection standard.
