I am a lifelong Kansan and I've lived in Olathe since 1988. My wife and I raised three children here. Our adopted dogs, Lola and Missy, now fill the role of “kids” in our household. I'm a graduate of Shawnee Mission North and Kansas State University.
The majority of my working life has been in public service. My main career was as an Air Traffic Controller. During that time, I was selected twice to work in the Traffic Management Unit. I was elected Area Representative and also to the Executive Board of my union local of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association. After my retirement from federal service, I became an instructor at the FAA Academy where I trained new air traffic students. Next came my time with the Overland Park Police Department. I trained as a 911 dispatcher then switched to work as a Motorist Assist Officer. Fleet Maintenance was my next assignment ending with 3 ½ years as Supervisor of Police Fleet Operations. I was responsible for purchasing, equipping and maintaining all patrol and detective vehicles.
Bowling is my main hobby. I bowl twice a week now mainly for fun. I was captain of the bowling team at K-State and in 1981 I teamed with another student to finish 1st in Doubles at the ACUI National Championships. I also enjoy fantasy baseball, chess and disc golf.
I volunteered for many years with the media ministry at my church. I mostly operated video cameras for worship services, concerts, and other events. I have also given my time to work in the hunger ministry by delivering to food banks and serving meals. When my children were young I served as a Cub Scout leader and Girl Scout volunteer. I have also volunteered regularly through the years for the Democratic party, starting even before I was old enough to vote myself.
